CLATSKANIE — With a 2A Northwest League title on the line and a packed, partisan crowd on hand in their home gym the Clatskanie Tigers had every reason to get off to a quick start Thursday versus Portland Christian.
The rangy Royals failed to comply, however, as they jumped to a quick 8-1 first set lead. Not a particularly surprising start for the defending 2A State champions.
To Clatskanie’s credit, it quickly reversed its slow start and scrambled all the way back to grab the first set 25-23, on the way to a 3-0 win over the previously first-place Royals. The Tigers closed out the win with set scores of 25-17 and 25-22.
“We’ve come back from deficits before,” said Clatskanie coach Amanda Baker. “It took us a little bit to get warmed up and shake the nerves. I knew we were hungry for it.”
