BIG K COURT – The Monarchs got a big lift from Mikaila Warfield in the Regional round of the 2A State Tournament on Saturday when she posted a game-high 35 points in a 68-42 win over Kingston at Kelso High School.
The victory kept the Mark Morris girls basketball team’s season alive, and also helped to erase some painful recent history by advancing MM to the final site at the Yakima SunDome for the first time in a decade.
And in case head coach Sean Atkins had forgotten just how long it had been, the photos from that trip 10 years ago popped up on this phone less than 24-hours prior to tip-off over the weekend.
“It’s kind of been the story of me coaching at Mark Morris. We’ve always been a game short of getting to that spot,” MM head coach Sean Atkins said. “It’s nice to stamp it and get it done and get there.”
