BIG K COURT — The R.A. Long Lumberjacks showed flashes of brilliance on the way to a 59-53 victory over Tumwater in the 2A District IV boys basketball championship game on Saturday night at Kelso High School.

The Jacks led by 24 points at halftime and showcased their suffocating style of defense for all but a couple of outlying moments early on.

But the Jacks were tested down the stretch as Tumwater, coached by Mark Morris grad Josh Wilson, refused to let the crowd go home without getting a good show.

“We made some shots, played really good defense — but that team’s not gonna go away,” RAL head coach Jeray Key said. “They’re don’t have twenty straight victories for no reason, and we actually let them get into a few of things a little easier than I wanted to but I’m just glad we weathered the storm.”
