BAKAMUS GYMNASIUM — The R.A. Long Lumberjacks completed their historic undefeated run through the regular season on Thursday night with a coast-to-coast 75-53 victory that served as a victory lap on Natt Court.
The No. 1 ranked Lumberjacks cooked up a quick 11-0 lead and never allowed the hosts to get back in it. The emphatic Civil War victory, which included a fourth quarter coast into the finish line, gave R.A. Long a perfect 21-0 record to go with its second straight 2A Greater St. Helens League championship entering the postseason.
“It’s pretty cool making some history, but I think we’ll look at that a little later on down the road, after the season is over, because we’re so focused on what’s in front of us right now” RAL head coach Jeray Key said. “I told our guys to enjoy it tonight, tomorrow, but after that, we’re all zero-and-zero and you’ve got to win two more to get to State.”
Meanwhile, the Monarchs ran out a young lineup, with just 10 players on the bench, and a cast of junior varsity call-ups filling in for a host of varsity players who did not suit up. It was the third straight game for Mark Morris with regular starters out of action, leaving two freshman and a sophomore in the starting lineup.
