Lumberjacks bats sleepy in first round loss
The R.A. Long baseball team managed just three hits in a 4-1 loss to Othello in the opening round of the 2A State Tournament, Saturday, at W.F. West High School in Chehalis.
The Lumberjacks took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. That lone notch on the scoreboard came when Hunter Brewer reached base on an error, took second on a throwing error, swiped third on a wild pitch, and then tagged up on a sacrifice fly by Jonah Cadigan.
Jeff Rooklidge led the Jacks at the plate with a pair of hits at the top of the order. Riley Young tacked on R.A. Long’s only other hit in the season-ending loss.
“Boys played well,” R.A. Long head coach Ryan Littlefield said. “We just didn’t get our timely hits.”
