Lumberjacks earn home date with Aberdeen
R.A. Long set up a dramatic finish to the 2A Greater St. Helens League slate last week but couldn’t quite pull off their stunt. The Lumberjacks split a home/away series with Columbia River and settled for second place in the league race.
The Jacks are now set to host Aberdeen on Tuesday to open the 2A District IV Tournament.
In the penultimate game of the regular season last Wednesday, the Jacks pulled off an inspired comeback with a 6-4 win over the Rapids at The Lumberyard.
By the middle of the third inning R.A. Long found itself trailing 4-1, with any hopes of a league title quickly fading like the light on a caboose in a long tunnel. But the Jacks responded with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the third and never looked back.
“It was a wild one, man,” R.A. Long head coach Ryan Littlefield said. “We kind of knew that it was going to have to be a tough offensive day and we were going to have to be really focused pitch by pitch in our at bats.”
