Gordon, Fishermen rally over Ravens in elimination game
The Ilwaco boys basketball team knew it was facing a tough task before it ever entered the gym, Saturday. After all, the Fishermen were plenty familiar with their opponent after splitting the regular season series with Raymond-South Bend.
But with their season on the line in the 2B District IV Tournament the Fishermen came together to defeat the rival Ravens 49-43 at Rochester High School.
And as should be the case in any rivalry contest, the outcome came down to the wire.
“It was a defensive affair in the first half,” Ilwaco coach Eric McMillan said. “Both of our teams struggled to buy a bucket in the half court and really only scored off of the fast break. It took us a little while to get going, but after talking things over at halftime, we were able to find some rhythm.”
