The Wahkiakum boys basketball team made its way to West Lewis County on Tuesday needing a victory in order to stick in the No. 2 spot in the 1B Columbia Valley standings. The Mules knew they’d have their hands full, but they were confident they’d figure out how to get the job done, but they probably couldn’t have predicted exactly who would be putting in the most work along the way.

With a new-look lineup Wahkiakum needed about 16 minutes to figure out its pacing before locking in to secure a 48-39 win at Pe Ell. Gage Robinson, a 6-foot 4-inch junior, led the Mules with a double-double that included a game-high 20 points to go along with about a dozen rebounds.

“Gage Robinson finally decided to be a post and went 10 of 14 shooting and had 20 points on the night,” Wahkiakum coach Rob Garrett said. “That’s a presence we have definitely been missing.”
