It was a mutual admiration fest at Ted M. Natt Court on Saturday as Mark Morris let all the kids play in a 74-44 victory over Aberdeen in non-league boys basketball action.

All told 10 Monarchs put shots up and eight reached the scoring column in a contest that saw the hosts take a 9-0 lead from the jump and a 26-2 advantage by the end of the first quarter.

Appropriately, Dalton Stevens once again led Mark Morris on offense with a game-high 25 points on a night where the student section was decked out in oversize disco glasses and party pants for “Saturday Night Stever” poster night.

Stevenson and the rest of the Monarchs certainly looked ready to party as they knocked down 66 percent of their shots from the floor, including 5 of 13 looks from downtown, and enjoyed a 40-16 lead at the intermission.

“I think our defensive intensity and our defensive pressure really started to weigh on them,” MM coach Ken Kelly said at the conclusion of his first week calling the shots in real life games that matter. “They took some quick shots and we were able to get some rebounds and get out in transition, and when my guys get out in transition that’s where they’re really the best.”

Jhacob Quezada scored a team-high 24 points for the Bobcats. He hit seven 3-pointers, including four in the third quarter alone. No other Aberdeen player netted more than five points.

But the Monarchs continued to add on even as the clock began to wind down faster and the rotation grew longer.
