Stephens leads Monarchs to victory in Mint City

The Mark Morris boys basketball team improved to 7-0 on the season, Monday, with a 58-45 non-league win at W.F. West over their 2A District IV foes. Nate Stephens led the Monarchs in the scoring column with 17 points and helped the visitors pull away in a game that was tied after three quarters.

Late last week the Bearcats lost to Ridgefield in a game that took four overtimes to decide the outcome, and some observers wondered if W.F. West was still running on fumes after burning the barn down in that probable district tournament preview.

The Bearcats were led by Weston Dolter’s 17 points, while Carlos Vallejo added 11.

On the other end, Dalton Stephens and Carson Bogner added a dozen points each to help the Monarchs get by their hosts in the Mint City.

“The team was balanced again in the scorebook,” Mark Morris coach Ken Kelly said. “(We) had at least three players score in double figures in each game except for one, and in that one, we had ten players score in a 50-point win.”
