Unbelievable UnderDucks uppercut MWP for District berth

The Toutle Lake boys basketball team completed its unlikely path to the District Tournament by knocking off Morton-White Pass 56-38, Thursday, at Toledo in a tiebreaker for the final playoff spot out of the Central 2B League.

After starting the season riddled with injuries and losing their first dozen games, the Fighting Ducks managed to turn things around in the nick of time. And in doing so, Toutle Lake has become the most improbable story in all of the Blast Zone.

Playing on neutral ground against the T-Wolves the Toutle Lake boys deployed mean defense in the first half, holding Morton-White Pass to seven or fewer points in both quarters. By halftime the Ducks led 24-11 and never looked back.

Caleb Webber led Toutle Lake with a game-high 29 points, and Jonas Schelb posted 13 for the Ducks. Tucker Hart added six points in the win.

“We battled,” first-year Toutle Lake coach Nick Veys said. “The rebounding and scoring effort of Caleb Webber and Jonas Schelb, along with the defense of River Moss, Austin Webber and Tucker Hart on Judah (Kelly) helped us control the game.”
