Garcia’s goals lift shorthanded Jacks over Beavers

R.A. Long made the trip to the ol’ Forest City on Saturday and survived a scrap with the Beavers for a 2-1 win in 2A Greater St. Helens League boys soccer play.

The Lumberjacks entered the match already missing Beiro Orozco, and lost Daniel Santiago to a knee injury early in the contest at Woodland. The Beavers also came out of the match worse for the wear after Miguel Martinez Betancourt suffered a broken collarbone that will keep him out of action for the rest of the season.

Saturday’s matinee was a far different encounter than the first time the teams met back on March 13, when the Lumberjacks emerged with a 6-0 victory.

“Woodland came out strong and scored in the first minute of the match,” RAL head coach Max Anderson said. “We responded - more slowly than I’d have liked.”
