Stading shoots Woodland over Washougal

When the Woodland girls basketball team is coming to town it’s a good bet you're about to watch a double-double go down like the Hamburglar just struck the local drive-thru joint. That’s just the reality when Kennedy Bockert is on the opposing roster.

And Monday, at Washougal, Bockert did get her customary double-double. But it was Addi Stading who proved to be the special sauce for the visitors in a 66-38 victory over the Panthers in 2A Greater St. Helens League play.

Stading scored a game-high 18 points for the Beavers and was altogether infectious in her high energy approach on both ends of the floor. She knocked down a trio of long range attempts, grabbed four rebounds and dished four assists while doing her best to dispel the persistent rumor that Washougal is a tough place to play.

And she made the Panthers pick their poison. Double team Bockert in the post, or put a hand in Stading’s face. To do both would be impossible, and picking correctly at any given time proved nearly as tough.

“The group is fun to coach,” Woodland coach Glen Flanagan said. “Great unselfish kids who stay positive and work hard.”
