Mark Morris heats up to sink Washougal
The Monarchs needed a little time to get their collective motor all the way warmed before racing off with a 57-39 win over Washougal, Friday, in 2A Greater St. Helens League girls basketball action at Bakamus Gymnasium.
Mark Morris tried to put the Panthers away early, putting up 18 points in the first quarter and taking an eight point lead. Reese Johnston led Mark Morris with a team-high 17 points that included a trio of 3-pointers.
However, things bogged down in the second quarter for the hosts and they headed to the locker room leading just 26-25. Jenna Klopman scored a game-high 19 points for the Panthers with four 3-pointers to her credit. Riley Vaughan added 14 points for the visitors.
“A game of runs that we had the last one in the fourth to really separate,” Mark Morris coach Sean Atkins said. “Reese Johnston was a big part of that with 10 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter.”
