CASTLE ROCK — Sometimes a game isn’t all about what’s on the scoreboard. And sometimes a sophomore hauls off and scores four goals and it’s impossible to ignore. In this case, Sienna DiCristina was the underclassman in the spotlight and Kalama defeated Castle Rock 8-0 in a one-sided 1A Trico League girls soccer mismatch that can’t be entirely defined by the box score.
Hard as it may be to believe in retrospect, the first 15 minutes of the contest was played primarily on the Kalama half, even if Zoe Libbey did manage to sneak in a quick score in the third minute while some fans were still finding their parking spots.
“We caught on quickly. We did not have our marks on that first shot of the game that they got,” first-year Castle Rock coach Ashley Fulton said. “That was a wide open one. We set the goalie up and we knew it. My whole defense knew it. They didn’t even look over at me because they knew.”
