The Guizzotti sisters got a foot in on a pair of the Monarchs goals to help dial up a 3-0 win over Washougal in 2A Greater St. Helens League girls soccer action, Thursday, at Longview Memorial Stadium.
The win was the first in league play for Mark Morris..
It was Kamrie Guizzotti who put punctuation on the Monarchs offense when she sank a penalty kick late in the contest. Prior to that, Raelie Guizzotti put her name in the box score with a second half assist to set up a goal by Kiki Makaiwi.
Megan Fugleburg opened the scoring for Mark Morris with an unassisted goal in the first half.
Emersyn Thompson gloved the shutout for the Monarchs with a dozen saves, and Mark Morris first-year head coach Shilah Nickerson tabbed Mia Peters as the match standout.
Mark Morris (2-4, 1-3 league) will play at Hudson’s Bay on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Hawks hand R.A. Long first loss in PKs
A cold open came back to cost R.A. Long in a shootout loss at Hockinson, Thursday night, in a 2A GSHL girls soccer thriller.
The Hawks were able to take advantage of some early and uncharacteristic chaos on the Lumberjills’ back line to post a goal in the 4th minute. Four minutes later Hockinson was able to push ahead for another score that had the R.A. Long braintrust scratching its collective head.
Up to that moment, the Lumberjills had allowed just three goals all season. And two of those were scored under similar duress during a wet league contest against Woodland.
“Hockinson came out hard and gut-punched us early,” R.A. Long coach Taylor Wallace said. “I think we struggled with the conditions and the physicality of a gritty Hawks side.”
It didn’t take long for the Jills to answer back, though.
In the 13th minute, Alice Anderson sent a pass to Laura Nikolajsen and the blond braided transfer from Denmark scored the first of her two goals on the day.
“We found our rhythm, though, and we put pressure back on them,” Wallace said.
The Lumberjills trailed 2-1 at the intermission but four minutes after breaking the huddle Anderson sent another assist to Nikolajsen for the equalizer.
But the Jills’ momentum stalled there and the rest of the second half, along with two full extra time periods rolled along without either team tickling the twine.
The Lumberjills eventually lost the shootout 4-3.
R.A. Long (5-1, 3-1) will host Washougal at Longview Memorial Stadium on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Hayden’s hat trick sends Woodland over Bay
Lainey Hayden posted three goals for Woodland in a 9-1 win over Hudson’s Bay, Thursday, at Beaver Stadium in 2A GSHL girls soccer action.
Behind the boot of Haden and company the Beavers carved out a 5-0 lead before halftime and cruised the rest of the way. Jillian Lutzenburger contributed three assists and a goal to Woodland’s offense.
Woodland goalie Brooklyn Haden posted three saves in the first half before handing over net tender duties to Rally McReynolds.
Woodland (1-4-1, 1-3) will play at Ridgefield on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Kelso edged out by Mountain View
The Hilanders suffered just their second loss of the season, Thursday, in a 2-1 defeat on the road at Mountain View in 3A Greater St. Helens League girls soccer play.
The Thunder cracked the seal immediately with a goal in the fist minute and then notched another during stoppage time before the intermission.
Trailing 2-0 at the half, Kelso turned to Karsyn Ross and she quickly delivered. Ross found the back of the net in the 47th minute on an assist from Mikalah Bouchcer.
But that’s all the offense Kelso could muster in their first league loss.
Likewise, the Hilanders frustrated their hosts for the final 40 minutes with a tenacious defensive effort.
“Libby (LeBaron) was able to lock down a key forward for the opposing team limiting her chances in the second half,” Kelso coach Kyle Tatro said. “Chace (Doehne) was able to lock down a key midfield that allowed our team to get the attack going.”
Makenna Fitzpatrick posted 10 saves between the pipes for the Hilanders.
Kelso (5-2, 1-1 league) will play at Centralia High School on Saturday at noon. The Hilanders will return to stay on the non-league beat when they host Rochester at 7. p.m.
Kalama’s Hollifield, DiCristina hang hats in shutout of Fort
The Chinooks put on an offensive clinic in a 7-0 road win at Fort Vancouver, Thursday, in 1A Trico girls soccer. action.
Bridgette Hollifield and Sienna DiCristina each posted three goal with an assist for Kalama in the victory. Kaydence Roth added a goal for the ‘Nooks and Aubrey Doerty put her foot on two assists.
Kalama’s defense was equally impressive in the shutout.
The ‘Nooks coaching staff tabbed Ada Schlangen as their most outstanding defender who couldn’t use her hands. Meanwhile, Aubree Hutchinon posted four saves as goalkeeper in the first half, and Noel Ripp finished the clean sheat with five saves in the second half.
Kalama (3-3, 2-2 league) will host Columbia-White Salmon at Chinook Stadium on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Rockets shuffle keepers in loss to La Center
Castle Rock was forced to swap out goalies unexpectedly before suffering a 7-0 loss at home to La Center, Thursday, in 1A Trico League girls soccer action.
But the end result did little to sour the performance review from first-year head coach Ashley Fulton.
“Aubrey Bolar stepped up for her team and did an amazing job in goal using her knowledge of the game, skill, and overall love of the game to help keep the score down,” Fulton said.
Injuries up and down the lineup left the Rockets with just two subs, along with their break-in-case-of-emergency goalie, and it all proved to be too much to overcome. At least in terms of final score.
“(We) were forced to move around the field to get ‘a break’ instead of always being able to actually get off the field to recover,” Fulton said. “Overall they did an amazing job with shots on goal coming from most of the offensive players.”
Castle Rock (0-4-1, 0-3-1) will play at Seton Catholic on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
