The Monarchs posted a clean sheet with the help of goalie Emersyn Thompson on the way to a 4-0 win on the road at Hudson’s Bay, Tuesday, in 2A Greater St. Helens League girls soccer play.
Thompson gloved four saves on the night to help preserve the shutout, and Mark Morris coach Shilah Nickerson tabbed Grace Eaton as an all-around standout in the match.
The Monarchs led just 1-0 at the intermission but piled on a trio of goals down the stretch in order to net the win. Megan Fugleburg scored in the first half on an assist from Maya Booth.
Raelie Guizzotti got the scoring started in the second half with an unassisted goal, and Kamrie Guizzotti followed up shortly thereafter with a penalty kick score. Meadow Coffman rounded out the Monarchs’ offense with a goal off an assist from Macy Roseman.
Mark Morris (3-4, 2-3) will host Woodland at 7 p.m., Thursday, at Longview Memorial Stadium.
Lumberjills lay a lick on Washougal
R.A. Long ran out to a five goal lead before halftime on the way to a 7-0 win over Washougal in 2A GSHL girls soccer action, Tuesday, at Longview Memorial Stadium.
But the Lumberjills had their hands full in the early going.
“We didn’t really know what to expect coming into this match,” R.A. Long coach Taylor Wallace said. “We had enough info to know who their target players were, yet we didn’t realize the speed they had up top.”
That speed on the visitor’s side led to a frantic start for the Jills as they tried to figure out how to counter.
“Credit to the Panthers and their coach, Kamal, for coming out strong and having an intentional plan that has caused headaches throughout the league at this point,” Wallace noted. “The first ten minutes were a little frantic as our defense had to adjust to their attack, but once we did, we were able to anticipate and counterattack effectively.”
Once the Jills found their footing things got out of hand quickly as they scored five times in just 12 minutes to take the 5-0 lead into the intermission.
Alice Anderson wound up with four goals on the night and started that scoring onslaught in the 10th minute off an assist from Olivia Durrett. Anderson followed up four minutes later with another goal, this time with an assist from Josie Sully. Anderson then switched to the role of facilitator with an assist to Durrett for a goal in the 17th minute, before getting back to scoring herself off an assist from Durrett in the 20th minute. Durrett finished the first half scoring with an unassisted goal in the 22nd minute.
“Alice and Olivia were really synched up, finding each other in tight spaces and on through balls,” Wallace said.
Durrett pulled off her own hat trick with a goal that was again assisted by Anderson in the 48th minute, and Anderson capped the offense with a goal that was assisted by Sully in the 58th minute.
“The score line provided some nice breathing room and gave us the ability to cycle through some players who have been a bit starved for minutes,” Wallace noted. “Josie Sully was one of those players who got a lot of minutes and made the most of her time… We were also able to swing up some players, and they added a ton of energy and a few scoring chances.”
R.A. Long (6-1, 4-1 league) play at Ridgefield on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Karsyn connection carries Kelso over Warriors
The Hilanders got back to their winning ways with a 7-0 win over Rochester, Tuesday, in non-league girls soccer play at Schroeder Field.
The win came after a two-game stretch in which Kelso tied with Centralia and lost to Mountain View. Karsyn Ross and Karsyn Hall were at the heart of the Hilanders aggressive approach with two goals and three assists between them.
Kelso staked out a 2-0 lead before the intermission with goals by Macy Watkins and Brooklynn Verhei at the 21 and 24 minute marks. Both goals were assisted by Ross.
After halftime, Cori Doehne gave the Hilanders a three score lead with an unassisted goal in the 41st minute. Ten minutes later Mikalah Boucher took a pass from Doehne and deposited it in the back of the net.
Ross picked up her lone score of the night in the 55th minute on an assist from Doehne, and seven minutes later Hall posted her goal following a well-timed feed by Ross.
Jasmine Meza closed out the host’s scoring in stoppage time off an assist from Verhei.
Makenna Fitzpatrick handled the goaltending duties for Kelso and posted one save to preserve the clean sheet.
“(Our) standout defensive player (was) Chace Doehne in the midfield,” Kelso coach Kyle Tatro said. “(She) covered ground to break up tackles and showed composure to distribute to attacking players.”
Kelso (7-2-1, 1-1 league) will return to league play at home against Evergreen on Thursday at 6 p.m.
Kalama snatches win from White Salmon
Playing without three regular starters the Chinooks needed a late goal from Bridgette Hollifield in order to come away with a 4-3 win over Columbia-White Salmon, Tuesday, in 1A Trico League girls soccer action at Chinooks Stadium.
“Due to injuries we have had to make some player/formation adjustments,” Kalama assistant coach Pat Shipley noted. “For example, Aubrey Doerty (C2BL Defensive Player of the Year last season) has been moved into the attack and has played wing, the last two games.”
After going to the intermission tied 2-2, and then watching that score turn to 3-3 as the home stretch approached on the horizon, Kalama was able to secure its final advantage in the 70th minute when Kaydence Roth set Hollifield up for the game-winning goal.
Hollifield also opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 13th minute. Sienna DiCristina put the ‘Nooks second score on the board in the 16th minute following a setup pass from Hollifield.
Four minutes after halftime ended it was DiCristina who put Kalama back in the lead with an unassisted goal.
However, the Chinooks would not have been able to celebrate the win without a clutch performance from their defense. Aubree Hutchinson posted seven saves in goal for Kalama, but it was team captain Delaney Rinard who was dubbed defensive player of the game by the Chinooks’ coaching staff.
“Delaney has done a great job of running the back line with Elly Foreman, Libby Perkins and Ada Schlangen,” Shipley said. “Columbia has some very fast girls and (they) were really looking to use that strength against us. The diagonal ball to their wing as well as the through ball gave us issues and Delaney did a great job of directing the less experienced defenders into position as well as providing great defensive skill herself.”
Kalama (4-3, 3-2 league) will play at King’s Way Christian on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Castle Rock blasted by Cougars
The Rockets suffered the same fate as everyone else so far when they fell 8-0 to undefeated Seton Catholic in 1A Trico League girls soccer action on the road Tuesday,
Castle Rock coach Ashley Fulton named Kynlie Partridge, Tehya Green, Larissa Fulton, Valerie Shetler, and Aubrey Bolar as standouts for the wide in red and white.
“Despite the big score difference at half the Rockets came in trying at the start of second half,” Fulton said. “Unfortunately there wasn't enough oomph from enough players to make things turn around.”
Castle Rock (0-5-1, 0-4-1 league) will play at Columbia-White Salmon on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Ducks dropped by dirty birds
Despite a furious offensive effort Toutle Lake was unable to secure a victory on its home field, Monday, instead absorbing a 4-1 loss at the hands of Raymond-South Bend in 2B girls soccer play.
“We had nearly 24 shots on goal,” Toutle Lake coach Alli Ostreim said. “(The) entire first half we controlled (the) ball, (but) we couldn’t find the net until the 75th minute.”
That lone score came off the boot of 8th grader Anayiah Perez who is in the midst of her first season of soccer. Other than that, Toutle Lake was frustrated by the Ravens defense.
“Olivia (Thomas) had amazing corners and crosses we just couldn’t connect,” lamented Ostreim.
Toutle Lake (1-6) will host Onalaska at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
