Scruggs, Sanders carry Lassies to District title
The Kelso girls golf team defended its home turf with the angled irons and won the 3A District IV Tournament this week at Three Rivers Golf Course. Mallory Scruggs and Lilee Sanders combined to lead the Lassies by finishing third and fourth overall, respectively, in the tournament.
As a team Kelso wound up at the top of the leaderboard with four golfers in the top-10 and a combined score of 886. Mountain View placed second with a tally of 1104.
The runaway victory was made all the more impressive by the youth of the Lassies lineup.
“We have three brand new golfers this year and two more only in year two,” Kelso head coach Pat Connors said. “We have been working hard on fundamentals and approach which has been paying off… Their improvement has been amazing.”
