Monarchs fall to Tumwater in District title game
CHEHALIS — The Mark Morris softball team suffered its first loss of the season in their final contest at the 2A District IV Tournament. The Monarchs had been victorious in 22 consecutive games entering Friday night’s contest against Tumwater, when they fell 3-0 in the District championship tilt.
It was a disappointing development for the 2A Greater St. Helens League champions, but it will not be the final chapter in their storybook.
“That’s a great team, and we have been No. 1 and No. 2 all year long in the RPI,” MM head coach Chris Mejia said. “I fully intend that that’s the way it’s going to end up when we go to the seeding committee.”
Indeed, that is the way it came out when the powers that be convened on Sunday. The Monarchs are the No. 2 seed to the state tournament, and the T-Birds are No. 1.
“We’re probably going to face them again,” Mejia predicted.
