If a track and field team receives its mail within the parameters of the Blast Zone, there’s a good chance they were in Ridgefield for the Spudder Track and Field Classic last Friday, May 9.
Castle Rock was no different, and the Rockets had a solid showing. The girls team scored 31 points to finish ninth of 26 schools, while the boys accumulated seven points for a 21st place finish.
The Rockets were led by Casie Kleine, who won the 400-meter run with a time of 58.43 seconds. Kleine also took third in the girls 200-meters at 25.97 seconds and third in the 100-meters at 12.73 seconds.
The 4X400 relay team of Kleine, Kadence Smith, Ellie Powers and Myah Manzano finished fifth at 4:20.95.
The boys saw a good performance from their 4X200 relay team of Heston Hughes, Dionicio Guzman-Curz, Brody Burgoyne and Thatcher Heller, which finished third with a time of 1:35.48.
Coming Up
The Rockets will begin the postseason at the 1A Sub-District 4 meet in La Center Friday, May 16.
Athletes Ranked Top-10
Kleine’s 400-meter time of 58.23 seconds at the Kalama Twilight Invitational April 25 was the fastest in the state. She also has the third-fastest time in the 200 meters, seventh-fastest time in the 100 meters and ninth-best time in the 800 meters.
The aforementioned girls 4X400 relay team has the ninth-best time in the state.
Heller has the 10 th -fastest 300-meter hurdle time in the state.
