The R.A. Long volleyball team hit the road on Tuesday and returned from South Cowlitz County with a four-set win over Woodland. The Lumberjills took the 2A Greater St. Helens League affair by scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-22 and 25-22.
“We’ve been working really hard on not setting that third ball over, or free-balling it over, but working on shots. I thought we executed that well,” RAL coach Whitney Nailon said.
The Beavers were led by Jenna Starr who posted 22 kills and three aces. Ella Peterson added 19 kills and Addi Siemer posted three blocks.
The Lumberjills had to overcome a loss in the second set to claim the victory and none other than Jillian Woodruff was at the heart of that turnaround. She posted nine kills with a .667 hitting percentage to go with 17 assists, five digs and five aces.
“Jillian is one of the most well-rounded volleyball players around,” Nailon said. “I’ve never coached a volleyball player that can lead in assists, lead in kills, lead in aces, and be our best serve-receive passer.”
