‘Nooks hold off Hoquiam in loser-out showdown
Kalama opened up its run in the main bracket of the 1A District IV Volleyball Tournament with a loss at the hands of La Center, Wednesday, but rebounded in time to take out Hoquiam in a do-or-die contest on LeBaron Court in Castle Rock.
After being swept by the Wildcats, Kalama came back to hold off Hoquiam with scores of 25-23, 25-13, 16-25, and 25-8 in a loser-out match.
Emily Capen led the Chinooks with 21 kills, 15 digs and four aces.
“My team struggled with energy a bit tonight during the second match, but glad that we were able to get it done,” Kalama coach Rebecca Clark said.
Taylor Hoggatt led the defense with 24 digs to go with three aces, while Adylyn Davenport added 16 digs, three kills and an ace.
Jacey Hutchinson distributed 22 assists to go with four aces for ‘Nooks, and Edyn Davenport turned in nine assists in the win.
“I do want to give a shoutout to my freshman setter Edyn Davenport who went in in the fourth set with high energy, which turned our momentum around and helped us dominate in that fourth set,” Clark noted.
