Kalama’s Suzara wins title, again, at biggest Rubber Chicken ever
The Kalama wrestling program is intent on planting its flag on the local landscape for the long haul, and there’s hardly a more memorable way to stand out from the bunch than to tie your fortunes to a big rubber chicken.
On Saturday the Chinooks hosted 21 boys teams, and 16 more on the girls side, for the biggest Rubber Chicken Classic ever at Kalama High School.
“Yesterday made history (when) we hosted the one and only Rubber Chicken,” Kalama coach Chase Staup said. “It was the first year we’ve ever had a girls tournament on top of a boys tournament and there were multiple State placers across both tournaments.”
And just as the Staup family of coaches has recently added another prospective wrestler to the mix, they also plan on continuing to grow the Rubber Chicken like so many polysisoprene poultry under the proverbial heat lamp.
