NWAC WOMEN’S SOCCER
The Lower Columbia women’s soccer team quickly took the air out of a highly anticipated rivalry match against Centralia, Saturday, with a 6-0 win at the Northlake Field in NWAC West region play.
The Red Devils posted four goals in the first half to stake out a commanding lead. Alexia Valdez led LCC with three goals on the night, all three of which came in the first half.
Valdez’ first score arrived in the 10th minute on a pass from Avery Kimball. Seven minutes later Kimball tallied an unassisted score herself. Then in the 22nd minute Valdez took a pass rom Kari Pate and put it in the back of the net before securing the hat trick on an unassisted score in the 42nd minute.
After halftime Angelina Hopwood added a score for the Red Devils in the 57th minute and Aver Ness scored on an assist from Joely Renk in stoppage time.
Jade Goulding and Emma Beavin split time between the pipes for LCC with each keep notching a pair of saves to keep the Red Devils’ season-long clean sheet alive.
The Red Devils actually gave up their first goal of the season last Tuesday, but it came in an unsanctioned friendly against Linfield College. Playing in McMinnville, the Red Devils settled for a 1-1 tie.
Lower Columbia (7-0, 5-0) will play at Tacoma on Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Red Devils will play host to Clark College at noon on Saturday at Northlake Field.

Lower Columbia snaps skid at Green River
The Red Devils got off the schneid Saturday with a 3-1 win on the road at Green River. The victory snapped a four-game slide for Lower Columbia in what has been a slippery start to the season.
Lower Columbia took the match by score of 25-18, 25-18, 22-25, and 25-21.
Kenny Collins led LCC with 20 kills and 25 digs. Samantha Farland added 17 kills, a dozen digs, two blocks and two aces, while Layni Brandhorst notched eight kills to go with one block.
Charissa Schierman and Allison Orantes each handed out 19 assists for the Red Devils. Madi Noel added seven assists and 30 digs in the win.
As for the Gators, Tanzy Fox led their effort with 11 kills and 15 digs.
Lower Columbia (5-12, 1-2 league) will play at Pierce College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Red Devils will welcome Tacoma to Myklebust Gymnasium on Friday at 6 p.m.
