This Day In History
Sept. 5, 2008: R.A. Long digs itself out of an early hole and takes advantage of two big Fort Vancouver mistakes late to win 34-29 for its first Week 1 victory in five years. William Yordy scored four of RAL’s five touchdowns on the ground, the last one coming midway through the fourth quarter after the Trapper’s botched the snap on a punt and the Jacks fell on it on the 2-yard line. Fort Vancouver drove down the field with a chance to win, but fumbled again with 57 seconds left, and Thomas McCall recovered to seal the win.
“We had a little luck on our side,” said first-year coach Erik Bertram. “But we were due for a bounce.”
