This Day In History
Dec. 7, 2001: The LCC men’s basketball team turns the ball over 26 times, commits 32 fouls, and allows Mt. Hood to corral 24 offensive rebounds and take 49 free throws, but the Red Devils score enough to outweigh all of that in a 109-92 barnburner of a win at Myklebust Gymnasium. The Devils were led by a pair of R.A. Long alumni: Joe Rowberry, who poured in a game-high 30 points, and Jay Van Hook, who scored 29 and added 13 rebounds and seven blocks off the bench.
Dec. 8, 1980: The Cathlamet girls basketball team has to make due with two of its starters out with injury, but does so well to take down Mark Morris 57-51 in a cross-classification matchup. Junior Shelley Merriman stepped into the leading scorer role for the Mules with 23 points and 14 rebounds, and put the guests ahead for good with a pair of free throws in the final minute. Denise Rose pitched in 14 points for Cathlamet, while Laura McInnis led Mark Morris with 16 points.
