This Day In History
May 2, 1997: The Wahkiakum Invitational Track Meet saw several impressive performances by locals, including a team victory for the Toutle Lake boys who saw Joe Koenig named male Athlete-of-the-Meet. Koneig won the 100 meter race (11.7 seconds), 200 meter race (24.4), and the long jump (18-3).
On the girls’ side, Wahkiakum took the team title thanks in large part to the efforts of Gabe Johnston who was named female Athlete-of-the-Meet. Johnston won the 100 meter race (13.5 seconds), 200 meters (28.1), and anchored the Mules in a first-place finish in the 800-meter relay (1:56.8).
The Mules posted the best combined team scores in order to win the K.R. McNally Memorial Award.
