This Day In History
Mar. 21, 1997: The Wahkiakum baseball team manages just three hits on the day, but one of them is a 2-RBI walk-off single off the bat of Steve Runkle that gives the Mules a 4-2 win over Napavine in their Central B League opener. Jason Runkle had a single and two stolen bases, and Josh Grasseth had an RBI knock for Wahkiakum, which also took advantage of nine walks.
“Our defense and pitching was solid, and our infield play sharp and had no errors,” Wahkiakum coach Jeff Rooklidge said. “Our hitting hasn’t quite caught up to our pitching.”
Jerod Russell struck out six in the start for the Mules, while Ryan Kuhl earned the win in relief.
