This Day In History
May 29, 1993: An out-of-state State semifinal would be weird enough, but R.A. Long and Mark Morris toss a dash of Civil War chaos in the mix for an eight-inning barnburner at the 2A state tournament, which was supposed to take place in Pullman but ended up getting moved to Lewiston, Idaho due to inclement weather. RAL ended up winning 3-2, taking the lead on a Rhea Christensen RBI triple in the top of the eighth inning. Kathi Dexter earned the win in the circle, allowing two hits in a complete game. RAL went on to fall to undefeated Tumwater in the state title game, while Mark Morris bounced back to finish third.
That Day In History
May 28, 2005: The Wahkiakum baseball team forgot to take the targets off its uniforms going into its regional, advancing to the state semifinals after Tacoma Baptist 12-3 and Pe Ell 21-10, taking 13 hit-by-pitches in the process. Matt Mogush was the only Mule starter not to wear a pitch — which was probably a good thing; he needed to stay un-dinged to pitch a two-hitter in the first game. Brandon Olsen was less lucky; he got hit three times, including once in the face. The Mules, who totaled 33 runs on the day, did some hitting of their own, led by Jeff McNally’s five knocks and six RBIs.
