This Day In History
Dec. 2, 2017: Kalama wins its second state title in program history and first at the 2B level, beating Liberty (Spangle) 28-27 in a back-and-forth championship game at the Tacoma Dome. Alex Dyer engineered an 80-yard drive with five minutes left in the fourth quarter to give the Chinooks the lead for good, capped by a 16-yard Elijah Haynes run and a go-ahead extra point from Logan Jones. Dyer finished with 188 passing yards and 64 rushing yards. Tucker Wetmore had five catches for 97 yards and a pair of touchdowns — the second of which came when he changed directions to sprint under a ball that had been batted in the air by the Liberty defense — and came down with a game-sealing interception on the Lancers’ final drive.
