This Day In History
Jan. 27, 1992: Clatskanie may have come into the day winless in league play, but it gives Rainier all it can handle before the Columbians eventually come away with a 69-66 win.
“It is tough to win on the road in the league, and we’ll take a win anytime we can get it, especially to a rival like Clatskanie,” Rainier coach Jeff Baughman said. The Tigers, who trailed 57-48 after three quarters, opened the fourth on a 13-0 run to take a four-point lead. Rainier finally got things under control to tie things at 63-63, then went ahead on buckets by Steve Jessee and Jeff Sorenson.
Jessee led all scorers with 25 points, Sorensen scored 14, Sean Davis had 12, and Jason Graham had 10 for Rainier. Red Rochon had 20 points to lead Clatskanie, while Aaron Klinke dropped a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double.
“It was a good game, and it could have gone either way,” Tigers coach Bryan Linn said. “But everybody got their money’s worth.”
