This Day In History
Nov. 26, 1970: R.A. Long — entering Thanksgiving at 1-5-1 on the season — throws its record out the window entering R.A. Long Stadium and proceeds to dominate 5-2 Kelso 14-0 to close out the fall. The Jacks forced three fumbles in what quickly became a mudbath, recovered two of them, and turned both of those takeaways into points. In the second quarter, Jim Chapman completed three passes to get a drive that started near midfield into the red zone, and Jim Karnofski powered his way for the final 5 yards over the goal line. Then in the third quarter, Jim Mawae fell on a loose ball at Kelso’s 11-yard line, and Chapman hit Dick Abrams for a touchdown on the next play.
