This Day In History
May 13, 2013: The R.A. Long softball team makes the district tournament on the slimmest of margins, due in large part to Addie Bailey’s grand slam in the seventh inning to power the Lumberjills to a 7-5 win over 2A GSHL champions Ridgefield. Madison Cathcart and Julia Leggett both went 2-for-3, while Tori Alimos had two hits and struck out 11 in the circle.
Beating the league champs wasn’t enough by itself for the Jills; RAL also needed last-place Hockinson to beat Washougal. But the the Hawks came through with the upset, giving RAL the league’s third and final spot at Districts.
“We have 11 lives,” RAL coach Jennifer (Godinho) Hefley said, “and we’re using them all.”
