This Day in History
Mar. 11, 2008: Jordan Wishard’s first attempt at the pole vault of the 2008 track season was a record-breaking one, as the Kelso senior cleared 14 feet, 9 inches to break Terry Anshutz’s Kelso school mark, which had stood for 16 years. Wishard also won the triple jump in the three-school meetup with R.A. Long and W.F. West with a hop, a skip and a jump of 42 feet, 1 inch, and ran the opening leg on the Hilanders’ winning 4x100 meter relay team.
That Day in History
Mar. 10, 1993: Mike Nazelrod, coming into the day a 35% free-throw shooter, drills both ends of a key one-and-one after grabbing a key rebounds with eight seconds left to put Kelso ahead for good in a 48-47 win over Olympic in a loser-out game at the 3A state tournament in Seattle.
“I just had to hit them,” Nazelrod said. “That first one helped my confidence, but I knew I had to hit the second one, too. I’ve been up and down all year, but I can hit ‘em when I have confidence.”It was the first win for the Hilander boys at State since 1960.
Seven-footer Ryan Chilton led Kelso with 25 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks. Tommy Lloyd, who like most of the Hilander roster was fighting the flu, drilled four 3-pointers en route to 14 points.
