THE LUMBERYARD — The FCA Lumberjacks of Woodland made themselves right at home in Longview last week, winning the 13-year old State Babe Ruth Tournament at The Lumberyard on the campus of R.A. Long High School.

The FCA Jacks defeated Kelso 12-2 in the second game of the two-game Championship series last Saturday to clinch a top seed to the Regional Tournament. That decisive final blow followed a white-knuckle 2-1 extra-inning victory for Kelso over the same Woodland based squad it saw so much of.

The weekend also included an on-field ceremony to honor a pair of locals who are longtime caretakers of youth baseball in Southwest Washington — Jarl Opgrande and Brian Hewitt.
