2B Prep Boys Basketball / Report

After two months of smooth sailing the Fishermen suddenly find themselves in unfamiliar waters.

Ilwaco was able to earn the No. 13 seed to the 2B State Tournament last week, but also suffered a pair of rare losses along the way. Now it’s time to see if those were just manageable leaks in the hull for the Pacific 2B League champions, or evidence of more concerning cracks in the vessel.

The Fishermen made a solid second half run against Toledo in the semifinals but saw their 16-game win streak snapped nonetheless. And then after putting down Rainier (WA) in a loser-out/winner-to-State contest on Friday night, Ilwaco was back in action the next afternoon and fell 57-34 to Adna in the third place game of the 2A District IV Tournament.

“We’re feeling pretty good,” Ilwaco head coach Eric McMillian noted after the WIAA seeding committee had concluded its business. “It’s always humbling losing but it helped identify some things we need to work on this week.”
