SELAH — The Mark Morris softball team saw its string of 14 consecutive shutouts snapped on the opening day of the 2A State Tournament in Selah, but that was the extent of the bad news as the Monarchs ran away with a pair of victories to advance in the bracket and keep their championship hopes alive.
The Monarchs defeated Nathan Hale 12-0 in five innings in their opener at Carlon Park, then turned around and whacked Burlington-Edison 11-1 in five innings to reach the semifinals.
Five players hit home runs for MM on the day, including a pair of big flies by Mikaila Warfield in the quarterfinals.
