This Day In History
April 10, 1968: A bases-clearing triple by Ben Davenport sparks a four-run sixth inning for Castle Rock, and the Rockets hold off a late Kalama charge to win 6-5 in the two schools’ Trico opener. Bob Brewer -- who held the Chinooks hitless for the first four innings before allowing two runs in the fifth -- singled Davenport home to make it 5-2, and Jim Ross hit an RBI double in the top of the seventh to make it 6-2. Those extra runs turned out to be important, as Kalam finally got to Brewer in the bottom of the seventh and put three runs on the board before Ross finally slammed the door in relif. Kalama’s Ken Burgoyne went the distance on the hill, striking out 10 but taking the loss.
