This Day In History
Nov. 14, 1993: Rainier proves that sometimes the best defense is a good offense in its 15-14 win over Brookings Harbor in the first round of the 3A state tournament, holding the ball for all but nine plays in the second half to take complete control of the game. The Columbians took possession on their own 15-yard line with 8:50 left in the third quarter, trailing 14-7, then proceeded to churn out a 25-play drive that killed the rest of the period and the first four minutes of the fourth and culminated with Ben Bruce diving into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown. Bruce also picked up the two-point conversion, and the Rainier defense did the rest, forcing a three-and-out and an interception on Brookings Harbors’ final two drives.
