This Day in History
Mar. 23, 2021: Winlock kicks off the COVID-shortened 2B softball season in the area with a 24-5 blowout of Kalama in Egg Town. Addison Hall went 3-for-3 with a two-run triple and a pair of walks and Karlie Jones struck out seven in a complete game for the Cardinals, who took the field just 72 hours after two-thirds of their starting lineup were on the court for Winlock’s district semifinal volleyball match.
“The word I’ve used a lot is ‘whirlwind,’ said Winlock coach Lauren Dumoulin, who herself had only held the skipper’s job for less than three weeks. “It’s been a lot of learning things on the fly and figuring things out as fast as we can.”
That Day In History
Mar. 22, 1985: The Mark Morris boys soccer team scores all eight goals on the day — five from Hung Nguyen by himself — as the Monarchs roll to a 7-1 win over W.F. West. Nguyen recorded a first-half hat trick, then scored twice more in the second half. Max Anderson added a goal and assist, with Darren House rounding out the scoring for the Monarchs, who also gave the Bearcats their only goal when an MM defender accidentally kicked the ball into his own net.
