This Day In History
May 18, 1965: R.A. Long beats Olympia 6-4 on the final day of the regular season, clinching second in the 2A Northern Division by holding off a furious rally by the Bears in the final frame. The Jacks led 6-0 after six innings, with Don Schroeder taking a shutout on the mound into the seventh, but two walks, three RAL errors and one lone Olympia hit got the Bears within two with just one out. The Jacks went to Loren Bruner out of the bullpen, and he retired two straight batters to earn the save -- or would have, if saves had been an official stat back then.
