This Day In History
Aprl 16, 2001: The R.A. Long baseball team can only scrounge up three hits, but turns them into plenty of runs for a 6-1 win over Camas in 3A Greater St. Helens League play.
“All year, we’ve emphasized taking advantage of what’s given to us,” RAL coach Charlie Worley said. “We’re not a big hitting team, we don’t get a lot of hits, but the hits we get are in key spots.”
The Jacks took the lead in a third without the benefit of a knock, then scored five more runs in the fourth. That was plenty for the combined effort of John Alexander — who allowed an unearned run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings — and Jamie Rivenes, who slammed the door fully shut.

Food (Line) Drive
The student at Mark Morris and R.A. Long High Schools have been working behind the scenes in order to rally support for the annual Civil War Food Drive.
With Longview’s two public high school set to play their regular season series this week, the primary day for the food drive is slated to take place on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“It’s less of a competition this year and more of a collaborative effort, with the primary goal of collecting as much food as possible for donation to Lower Columbia Cap,” MM ASB president Anabelle Schellenberg said.
Donations can be made directly at Grocery Outlet, Fred Myers, Safeway (on Ocean Beach Highway), and WalMart (on 7th Ave.). Each location will include bins with the R.A. Long and Mark Morris logos, so be sure to choose wisely when making your donation.
Donation sites will be in operation through April 24, and students may donate within their schools from April 20-24.
