This Day In History
Mar. 5, 1959: The Ilwaco boys basketball team overcomes an eight-point deficit with 90 seconds left against Ritzville in the quarterfinals of the Class B state tournament in Spokane, with Jim Peterson capping a 9-1 run with a bucket to tie the game and send it to overtime. Bob Bales, who led all scorers with 18 points, hit a pair of early buckets in OT for the Fishermen, who rode out the clock to a 58-52 win. Ilwaco went on to down St. John’s in the semifinals before beating Harrington in the title game for the first State crown in program history.
