That Day In History
May 15, 2009: Kalama softball’s regular season lasted a few more innings than expected, but the Chinooks come out 7-6 winners at Ilwaco in a nine-inning affair. Jordan Vossen hit an RBI single, and Megan Sutherby added much-needed insurance with a sac fly in the ninth for the visitors. Vossen finished 3-for-3 at the plate, while Corie McDaniel went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles.
This Day In History
May 16, 1978: The Kelso baseball team went into the final day of the regular season tied with Fort Vancouver atop the AAA Southwest Washington Conference standings, but pulls out a come-from-behind 5-4 win over the Trappers to take the league title. Cam Mathews led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run to tie the game at 4-4, and three batters later, John Groce scored the go-ahead run on an RBI fielder’s choice. Mathews finished off the win on the hill, working around a dropped third strike.
