This Day In History
May 5, 1961: Sophomore Bob Deans strikes out eight in a one-hitter to lead Woodland to a 7-0 win over Kalama and clinch the Beaverst their fourth straight North Trico division title. Woodland took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, then did the rest of the scoring in a five-run fifth, capped by a bases-clearing triple from Dick Weisenfluh, who finished 3-for-5 on the day. Lynn Runnion drove in a pair and had two hits as well.
