This Day In History
April 21, 1989: Forced into service for the first time all season, Michelle Paull gives the Mark Morris softball team six solid innings in the circle to lead the Monarchs to an 8-7 win over R.A. Long. MM starter Jill Stockdale broke her finger in the first inning — though she did finish the frame, allowing four runs — and Paull took over in the second, holding the Lumberjills to three runs on six hits.
“We really had to dig down deep tonight, considering Michelle had not pitched at all this season,” MM coach Mike Polis said. “We had to depend on more than one person and get enough help from the defense to pull us through.”Jackie Seidl went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Monarchs, and drove Paull home with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to give MM the walk-off win. Sally Street and Marcy Watkins both had a pair of knocks for RAL.
