This Day In History
April 30, ….
1986: Ron Wika and Henry Elliot both win three individual events, and team up to win a fourth to lead Wahkiakum to the boys team win in a quad meet in Cathlamet. Wika won the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches), the triple jump (37 feet, 11 inches), and — in his first time competing in the event — the high hurdles (16.7 seconds). Elliot cleaned up on the track, winning the 100 meters (11.90), 200 (24.5), and 400 (55.5). The pair then joined up with Jason Wolcott and Chris Mast to win the 400-meter relay in 47.9.
1993: Seven innings aren’t enough to separate R.A. Long and Mark Morris in their baseball tilt at LCC, after the Monarchs scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game up at 4-4, and MM completes the comeback three innings later to walk off 5-4 winners. Matt Hiatt had the game-winning hit, singling home Bryan Parker to help the Monarchs snap a seven-game losing streak.
