This Day In History
May 23, 1997: The LCC baseball team wins by the skin of its teeth -- Dustin Page’s, to be exact — in a 7-6 victory over Big Bend at the NWAACC baseball tournament. The Vikings had runners at first and second with two outs in the ninth inning, when the BB designated hitter jolted a shot right at Page at third, too hot to handle. The ball drilled the R.A. Long alum in the mouth, and as he lay stunned on the dirt, the lead runner wheeled around third base and sprinted for home — only for shortstop Todd Bramble to pick the ball up in front of Page and throw to the plate for the final out.
