This Day In History
Feb. 9, 2017: The Rainier boys basketball team scores the first 15 points of the night and holds on the rest of the way to down Clatskanie 63-52 to end the regular season. Caymon Rea leads all scorers with 21 points, all of which came in the second half, while Dawson Carr added 18. Dusten Sewald paced the Tigers with 15 points.
That Day In History
Feb. 8, 2011: Kaylea Knox puts the “hoot” in hootennanny, cashing in not one, but two game-tying buzzerbeaters to lead the Rainier girls basketball team to a 68-66 win in triple overtime over Clatskanie.
Leading by three with four seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Tigers missed a pair of free throws to keep Columbian hope alive, and after Amanda Schwegler grabbed the rebound, she found Knox, who launched from half court, who cashed in off glass.
“I don’t usually bank it, and my bank shots don’t usually go in,” Knox said. “I wasn’t expecting it to go in.”
Five minutes of gametime later, Rainier was right back in the same spot, down three with 14 seconds left. This time Knox grabbed the rebound herself off a missed 3-pointer, brought it out to the arc, and cashed in again.
Knox finished with a game-high 31 points, while Schwegler had 17 points and 18 rebounds for the Columbians. Holly Burghardt had 19 points to lead the Tigers, and KayLee Taylor had 18.
