This Day In History
Apr. 22, 1998: Brianna Woodham clears 5 feet, 6 inches at a meet in Cathlamet to shatter the old Ilwaco school record of 5’2” — set by her mother, Cheryl (Lovelace) Woodham in 1975.
“A lot of people thought I would be upset if she broke it, but I thought it was wonderful,” Cheryl told reporters afterward. “I suppose I might have been a little mad if someone else had done it.”
That Day In History
Apr. 21, 1970: The Castle Rock baseball team hands Woodland its first loss of the season with a late rally, plating five runs in the top of the seventh inning to win 5-2.
The Rockets, who trailed 2-1 going into the final frame, scored twice on back-to-back squeeze plays to tie and take the lead, and extended it with more small ball. Bill Nickolaus struck out 15 to earn the win for Castle Rock, while Brian Woodward — who was drafted by the Angels two months later — punched out 12 and allowed just three hits.

Monday’s High School girls tennis? My granddaughters of Prairie bested Kelso. The Nelson girls of Kelso had a rough game. Thanks!
